Helping Children Thrive

and reach their full potential

Who We Are and What We Do

Playwrite OT is an Occupational Therapy Practice with a special interest in Ayres Sensory Integration and DIR Floortime. We are located in the heart of Hillcrest where our team of three Occupational Therapists are passionate about the needs of each child they work with.

We aim to positively impact each family which is part of our practice with therapeutic strategies to assist with engagement, sensory integration and connection.

Our practice offers comprehensive assessments, diagnostic therapy, Ayres Sensory Integration therapy, a DIR Floortime approach, and the Tomatis® method.

How we can help you

Book A Consult

If you have any concerns about your child’s development, or your child’s school has recommended OT, you are welcome to book a consultation with one of our therapists to chat about your child’s needs and how we can assist you with a way forward.

Diagnostic Therapy

This is an assessment option for younger children, or a child with language-based limitations. We assess your child’s strengths and any areas of concern over six to eight therapy sessions. This allows us to build connection and relationship with your child during the process.

Book An Assessment

Assessments determine strengths and any challenges your child is experiencing related to their sensory integration, postural control, gross & fine motor skills, and visual perception. Assessment options: Sensory Integration & Praxis Tests (SIPT), & Evaluation in Ayres Sensory Integration (EASI).

Our Services

Our team is passionate about optimising our clients’ potential and enriching the lives of the families we work with.

Our aim is to see parents and children fully connected with each other by helping a child to reach their developmental potential through therapy and upskilling parents with strategies and practical tools.

We want to see families empowered!

We strongly believe that each child and family is created differently, with unique strengths for us to tap into.

Our therapy is focused on building confidence and skills in children where their development does not match what is expected of them in their various environments.

Does my child need ot?

Developmental norms are in place to assist parents and therapists to know when their children might need therapeutic intervention.

Research shows that early intervention is vital to providing children with the best opportunity for optimal development and functioning. When children are struggling to keep up with the pace that is set in an educational setting, or struggling with low confidence, our aim is to problem-solve together with the parents to find the best strategy.

Confidence is key!

We value a multi-disciplinary team approach where appropriate to assist children and families with optimal support.

Sensory sensitivities may look like:

Avoidance of movement, playground equipment, textures, etc.
Difficulty with age-appropriate fine or gross motor skills
Postural weakness which may look like poor posture, constant moving, and clumsiness
Difficulty forming friendships or appropriate attachment with carers
Handwriting difficulties in an older child
Sensory-based emotional and mental health disturbances like anxiety and low self-esteem
Sleep and toileting difficulties

When any of these signs become evident it can be an anxious time for parents and we aim to provide you with information so that you can make informed decisions on the way forward. We then walk alongside families in partnership. Therapeutic intervention is individualised to address each child’s strengths and areas of concern.

Playwrite OT aims to celebrate each child’s unique qualities.

Muscle Mania

Our therapists enjoy partnering with schools to run the Muscle Mania Programme either as part of the school day, or as an extra-curricular activity.

This fine motor strengthening programme aims to set children up for success related to future handwriting.

The programme is available to children in Grade 00 and Grade 0. Should your school be interested in more information on the programme, please get in touch here.

Neuralign

At Playwrite OT we make use of the Neuralign program which uses brain plasticity to create connections that are responsible for proper reading and comprehension that might not exist in children with poor reading skills.

Beginner readers use a different part of the brain to learn to read than skilled readers do when processing text.

Neuralign has been developed to help readers create new neural pathways and transition to becoming skilled readers.

Tomatis

We also engage with the The Tomatis® Method, a natural approach to neurosensory stimulation. The Tomatis listening programs change music and voice in real time in order to capture the brain’s attention and to develop motor, emotional and cognitive skills.

When communication between the ear and the brain is blurred, our ability to interact with the outside world is compromised. The result is often a loss of self-confidence that will enhance in turn the difficulties of communication and learning.

By treating the music and the voice in a very particular way, the Tomatis® Method helps children and adults to improve their quality of listening.
